The status of mental health in America is a complex and multifaceted issue. While we have made great strides regarding awareness and acceptance of mental health conditions, we still have much to do in regards to actually having those in need get the right treatment they need. Many people still face significant barriers in accessing treatment and often many who are suffering resist the help they so badly need. There are no easy answers of course but we believe one path to a mentally healthier society is by building stronger more resilient people who are willing and ready to be a part of a network support system that can ultimately impact the well being of their local community.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, an estimated 20% of adults in America experience a mental illness each year, and 5% experience a severe mental illness that significantly interferes with the function of their daily lives. Also, there are disparities in mental health outcomes based on factors such as race, ethnicity, gender, and socioeconomic status. While progress has been made in destigmatizing mental health and increasing access to care, we all need to work together by encouraging those in need to seek treatment and of course supporting them as best we can through out the process.
